Therapy Services

Telehealth

Telehealth (also called telemedicine or teletherapy) refers to the practice of providing health services to clients/patients by means of telecommunications technologies. All remote sessions are done through the use of HIPAA compliant video-conferencing platforms. Here at Courage To Be, LLC, I encourage clients to engage in their treatment through the use of in-office sessions, as well as telehealth interchangeably. This allows the client to have much more flexibility in how they engage and ensures that there is less stress with regards to missing appointments. Please note that telehealth sessions will continue to be offered post COVID-19.

1-1 Counseling

Individual Counseling: The Chicago School of Professional Psychology describes Individual therapy (sometimes called “psychotherapy” or “counseling”) as a process through which clients work one-on-one with a trained therapist—in a safe, caring, and confidential environment—to explore their feelings, beliefs, or behaviors, work through challenging or influential memories, identify aspects of their lives that they would like to change, better understand themselves and others, set personal goals, and work toward desired change. This can be done for a variety of challenges such as depression, anxiety, mood management, and struggles with psychosis.

Substance Abuse

Substance Use Treatment: The national SAMHSA website states that mental health and substance use disorders affect people from all walks of life and all age groups. These illnesses are common, recurrent, and often serious, but they are treatable and many people do recover. Mental disorders involve changes in thinking, mood, and/or behavior. Substance use disorders occur when the recurrent use of alcohol and/or drugs causes clinically significant impairment, including health problems, disability, and failure to meet major responsibilities at work, school, or home. These disorders can affect how we relate to others and make choices. The coexistence of both a mental health and a substance use disorder is referred to as co-occurring disorders.

trauma therapy

Trauma therapy is a type of therapy used to help people overcome psychological trauma. A traumatic event is defined as one in which you perceive a threat to your life, bodily integrity, or sanity. Trauma happens when your ability to cope is completely overwhelmed. The amazing thing about Trauma therapy is that there are a variety of therapy styles and each can be used alone or together to help you deal with the trauma and move forward with your life.

Diagnostic Assessment

A diagnostic assessment is a clinical evaluation provided by a licensed professional. The purpose of this assessment is to gather information to assess the client’s behavioral need to further determine the appropriate services needed. This is done by asking a variety of questions on multiple topics & is based on the initial problem, current mental status and the diagnostic impression. Please note that a diagnostic assessment is also referred to as a “mental health/substance use evaluation”.

Consultation

Consultation: An interactive helping process focused on work-related problems. The primary focus of a case consultation is to address any area that the consultee feels they may struggle with. In this process, both the consultant and consultee work together to identify areas that can be strengthened in regards to the therapeutic transaction.
